Oh, David....

Oh David....

This half smile is my favorite :)

So happy ALL the time!

I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Mo Tab Christmas concert tonight featuring this guy. If you know me at all, you know that I'm absolutely in love with David Archuleta! When I found out that David was the guest this year, I immediately called my friend (and old high school choir teacher) Peter Steenblik, who is in the choir, and offered to sell him my soul if he could get me tickets... About a month later he surprised my good friend Kameron and me with tickets :):) You can only imagine my reaction and joy when he gave us tickets!
So I've read David's book, I listen to his music all the time, I voted for him 121341232225 times when he was on American Idol, I watch him perform and do interviews all the time (I understand this is borderline creepy..... but I can't help it...) and I am just so impressed with him as a musician and a person. He is so grounded and has such a great outlook on life. His happiness and energy is something I'm striving to obtain. Although I did meet and talk to him briefly once, I don't know him personally (unfortunately...). But I really admire how he lives his life and how he balances his fame, family, friends, career and the Gospel. Everytime I watch a new interview of him or watch him perform, it seems like he is getting more firm in his faith, getting closer to the Lord, and that the light of Christ is shining brighter in his eyes! (Next time he sings, watch his eyes! Promise you'll notice the extra "sparkle,"!)  You know how there are certain people in life that strike something inside of you that inspires you to be a better person? He happens to be one of those people for me. I don't know why, he just inspires me, as a singer and as a person!
The concert was spectacular. He was spectacular. The choir was spectacular. The ballerinas coming out of the giant music box was spectacular. That voice. That smile. That tux he wore tonight... Stop it, he's adorable. Oh, David.......
{big dramatic love struck sigh....}

Shocked.

I kept hearing my phone go off early this morning but didn't check it til about 8:30. 10 texts from people in LDC telling me that the Provo Tabernacle was on fire. My choir was in that building rehearsing just hours before it caught on fire. We were supposed to have performances there tonight and tomorrow. We had a tradition of doing a big combined Thanksgiving and Easter concert in that building. This building is historic, probably one of the oldest in Provo/ Utah County. We loved this building. I wasn't able to be with them last night, but it's crazy to think my choir were the last people to ever sing in the beautiful, original Provo Tabernacle.... This building will be greatly missed.

Gratitude.

Have you ever been so grateful for something that you are stunned speechless? Humbled so that you feel so small and insignificant, but at the same time feeling so confident and sure that the Lord sees you as valuable and needs you to help move His Kingdom forth? Have you ever received an opporutnity so great that you feel completely undeserving? Have you ever felt so grateful that you simply don't know what to say?
I have.

TURBO TURBO TURBO!

Yesterday I accomplished something that I have been wanting to do for about 2 years now.... I am now officially a certified group fitness/ Turbokick instructor!!! :):) I can't believe I actually did it.. I was so nervous going into it, because do you want to know what? Yesterday was the first Turbokick class I've ever taken in my life :) Although I felt somewhat inadequate, I knew I could do it. Probably the biggest goal I set for myself this year was to get certified to teach something before Christmas. I am SO glad I did it! It was so fun, but so hard too. 8 1/2 hrs STRAIGHT of kickboxing.... my body is screaming at me today because it is so sore. But it's worth all of the time and the pain!
THAT SAID, I'm going to be teaching 6-8 weeks of FREE TURBOKICK CLASSES!! I'm going to be teaching them THURSDAY nights at 8:00 at my church in Sandy (the church on Eastdell right by Parklane) so, you ALL need to come!!! Turbokick is seriously the funnest workout there is! You're having so much fun that you don't realize just how hard you're working.... hard enough to burn 1,000 calories in ONE hour of Turbo! So, bring your friends and family and come to my FREE classes! I won't be ready to teach by this Thursday, so NEXT Thursday, Nov. 4, plan on coming to my first Turbokick class!

HANSON.

Thursday September 30, 2010 approximately 6:27 pm Ali Lente sends me this text...

Ali:"Dude. HANSON is in concert tonight. Do I need to convince you more than that?"
Me:"Absolutely not. I'm there!"

About an hour and a half later, we were driving to The Depot to see HANSON, (yes, the MMMBOP brothers) in concert.
EASILY the funnest concert I have ever been to! I mainly went just so I could say that I went to a Hanson concert, becasue who actually goes to a Hanson concert, right??
I didn't have very high expectations for them musically and I was shocked at how good they are! They are all so talented. Especially the youngest one... I can never remember his name.. lol. Zac! Haha goes to show what a dedicated fan I am... haha.
Anyways, he has one of the best tenor voices I've ever heard. The first song they sang when he was effortlessly belting somewhere around a G above middle C (for those who don't do music, that is FREAKING PHENOMINAL for a guy!) we both turned to eachother and our jaws just dropped!
Alright, so I admit that I only knew maybe 4 songs the whole night, but we still had a blast! They put on such a fun show! I also loved how clean, uplifting and happy their music was. I kid you not that I woke up the next morning with the hugest smile on my face singing "MMMBOP" :)
Not to mention that these teeny-boppers have turned out to be VERY attractive men, especially the youngest! DANG.
Don't worry, Hanson's still got it goin on...

Love.

Recently the principle of love has been re-emphasized heavily in my life. Loving others, being patient with others, being understanding and having sympathy and compassion for others. My dad is the most patient, loving, calm, laid-back, controlled and relaxed person I know, without a doubt. My mom is the perfect mom for me. She is also so loving, kind, selfless, nurturing, tender and caring. But my mom is also a very strong, hard working, driven, tough lil' fire cracker at the same time! The older I've gotten, the more I've become my dad, but I still have a lot of my mom in me as well. When I say my mom is "tough," this is what I mean. When I was 12, I broke my tailbone in a basketball game. My mom didn't see the incident happen, so she thought that nothing was wrong with me and that I was just complaining. After a year of complaining multiple times a day that my back really was hurting, she finally took me to the doctor. Come to find out, I did indeed break my tailbone which led to me having scoliosis which led to me having 4 surgeries on my legs/hips.... that's what I mean when I say she's tough :) Don't get me wrong, because my mom is my angel, really. She's just very practical. This is a trait I have definitely acquired from my mom. Having this trait can be a great thing and a bad thing. It's good because I can mentally tough my way out of just about anything physical, but it's a bad thing because I have a hard time feeling sympathy for others who can't.
But I'm not just talking about physical stuff, I'm talking about other aspects of life as well. I have a hard time putting myself in others shoes. I have a hard time understanding other people's thoughts and actions based on the trials they are going through. Make sense?
As I've been striving to turn this weakness of mine into a strength, my eyes have truly been opened! I can honestly feel how much the Savior loves each of us individually and perfectly. HE understands what it feels like to be in your shoes. He made the shoes for you and then wore them for you before you did. He wants you to have the most comfortable pair of shoes that are perfect for YOU! He "broke them in," worked out all the kinks and made them perfect for YOU so that you wouldn't have to do the tough stuff.
The only way I can describe the love I feel for people right now is like a motherly-ish love. Looking at someone and feeling so proud, humble, protective and thankful for that person.
I am not a perfect person. Not even close, obviously. I've just been working so hard to love others with no judgements or pre-conceived notions, and it really is working! If you have a weakness that you want turned into a strength, give it to the Lord, and He will work magic on you :)
The Lord loves you more than you know. I say this because I honestly feel it. If you ever doubt it, just pray to feel His love for you, and you WILL feel it!

Carried By Love

LDC has been going for about 3 weeks now and it's already amazing! The songs we're learning are seriously the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. My personal favorite is called "Carried By Love." Chills everytime we sing it. Just read the lyrics to the song and you'll see why...

Far from the flock, far from the fold;
lost in the dark, frightened and cold.
Captured by fear, bound by despair,
crying for one to hear my prayer.

Search me and find me, lost and alone.
Search me and find me, carry me safely home,
safely home.

Out of the night, black as my shame,
I hear a voice calling my name.
Shepherd of Love, calling to me,
offering grace abundant and free.

Lifted by hands, gentle and strong,
into His arms where I belong.
Held by the one sent from above,
covered by grace and carried by Love.

Search me and find me, lost and alone.
Search me and find me, carry me safely home,
Carry me safely home, safely home.

"into His arms where I belong...." this is a perfect song :)

Megan Marie Madsen!!

It's about time I intorduce you to another one of my best friends, Freuben Rupert Toobin Doobey... more commonly known as Megan! Isn't she so beautiful??? Like all of my other best friends, Meg has been in my life for 15 years now and what a blessing that has been! Megan is just a good person. She has been blessed with a "guilty concious," that always enables her to know what is right and what is wrong. This is one reason why I have kept her around all these years ;) Meg is brilliant. She has always maintained fantastic grades, even in college now. She takes her education very seriously and we can all strive to follow her example of being so dedicated to her schooling. Meg isn't afraid to go after her dreams. If she wants something bad enough, she will do everything she can to make that thing happen. She doesn't let the fear of rejection stop her from chasing her dreams, unlike some people I know (....cough, ME,.... cough) I need to work harder to be more like Meg in this aspect of life. Megan has the gift of creativity! She is constantly blowing us away with her latest creations from being a phenominal dance choreographer (she has been choreographing for high schools all over since she was in high school) to starting a small headband making business (again, something I've been wanting to do but haven't had the time and have been too scared)!! She puts 110% into everything she does. She's kind of a perfectionist which can be a great thing because she refuses to do things half heartedly. It's all or nothing for her which is something else I admire about her. For all you boys out there, I guarantee Megan Madsen is a bigger BYU football than you are!! She is a FANATIC!!! She was fan of the year, and she went to that one game last year in Texas maybe? (this goes to show how absolutely clueless I am when it comes to football... lol) and she managed to make the cover of the newspaper while at that game (picture above)!! I really think her devotion to BYU literally runs in her veins.. hahaha! Whenever we hang out with a new group of guys for the first time and someone brings up BYU football and she starts rattling off stats and starts re-broadcasting the games, the guys are all dumbfounded by the fact that she might actually know more about the game than they do haha! She's crazy and I LOVE it!!
Now, I know I've said this about all of my girls, but Megan for really reals makes me laugh harder than anyone!!!!! My Grandpa Vern has the #1 spot, my parents are tied for second, and then I think Meg and Ali Lente are tied for the #3 spot for people who make me laught the very hardest!!! Meg also has a gift of story telling (another one of her fabulous gifts that I wish I had)!! I always looked forward to when Meg came home for the day because she almost always had a funny story for us! I don't even think I can start writing some of the most memorable funny moments with Meg because they are ALL so funny!!! Meg these are for you: the dirty rotten fish picture, "von, two, three four," CHUCKY, terri, "I tell you these things, so you know them" "Goodnight & goodnight," and now my new favorite, "I'm just here for the cookies!!" L O L!!! Oh my gosh, I can't wait to watch all of these memories in Heaven with you someday haha!
Meg, you know how much I love you. You are one of the biggest blessings in my life and I think my Heavenly Father for you everyday. You are such a great example and friend to me and I'm the most blessed girl ever that I get to call you one of my best friends! I love you so much.

Gracie!

me: "Hey Grace, you going all the way in?"
grace: "Na, I'm just putting my feet in" she said as she tumbled down the stairs of the houseboat, and fell all the way in the water, as she was fully clothed (including a hat and sunglasses) while she was also holding all of her toiletries.... I'm laughing out loud just thinking about it!

grace: "Al, why do you like Fiji water so much? There is no difference at all except that it's more expensive."
me: "I can taste the difference, it's so much fresher." I said while taking a sip of my Fiji water which she had actually dumped out and filled with tap water... she the proceeded to fall to the floor and almost wet herself from laughter! Classic.

grace: "I'm taking Jesus in my suitcase to college with me" she said while bearing her testimony at seminary graduation. She made the mistake of looking at our row of friends after she said that and she saw/heard us basically explode with laughter and she pretty much lost it at that point too... haha another classic.

grace: " I couldn't figure out why he didn't want ice cream and why he was acting so weird afterwards... and the ice cream he did get was like the dumbest and smallest flavor ever... I mean seriously, who doesn't like ice cream?"
me: " Grace, you realize he's lactose intolerant, right?" Our laughter died down approximately 2 days later....

I love you more than you could ever know Gracie!
"In Heaven we were sisters.... but God wouldn't do that to one mother" :) (this is YOURS forever Gracie!! You know what I'm talking about :)
I LOVE YOU!!

LDC!!

WARNING: THIS IS LENGTHY!!
I'm shocked it's taken me this long to do a post about LDC!! I've had the incredible opportunity to sing in UVU's auditioned choir called Latter Day Celebration!! I can honestly say, auditioning for LDC has literally been the best decision I have yet to make thus far in my life! I almost didn't audition because of my ridiculous fear of try-outs, but I knew I had to audition. I heard about LDC 2 Christmas ago and ever since then I just knew I had to audition. I remember last summer I was debating whether or not I should try-out and I was trying to justify my reasons for not trying out. I remember I was standing in my kitchen one morning before work last summer making breakfast and it's almost like I heard a voice saying, "Audition, you're going to be in that choir." From then on I put my selfish worries aside and I auditioned! I think there were about 250 people that auditioned and there were 40 spots open, total guys and girls. So 20 girls, 20 guys. Break that into the 4 part choir, 10 people for each part. I still am so shocked I made it because the calliber of talent in LDC is unlike anything I have ever experienced. I have never felt so intimidated to sing before in my life than I was the first few weeks of LDC. Every person in the choir is beyone phenominal. But like I said, I knew I was going to make it way before I auditioned. I don't mean that in a conceeded way, I just had an undeniable feeling that I knew I would make it. LDC has literally changed my life. I'm not the same girl I was a year ago because of LDC. I feel like one of the main reasons I was supposed to be in LDC was to learn from all of my friends and to learn from our incredible director, Brother Eggett. I accredit all of my spiritual growth to my Savior, but I owe so much to the lessons I have learned from Brother Eggett. Anyone who knows him can attest to this! I have had the most incredible opportunites and experiences from being in LDC. In fact, 2 of the most amazing and best experiences I have ever had in my life have been with LDC; singing in General Conference and going on choir tour! General Conference was so amazing that it deserves a post of its own. I'll just say that it changed my life. Literally. The whole conference experience touched me enough to the point that I've kicked previous habbitts and attitudes that I once had and I will never go back because of the impact Conference had on me.
I do, however, want to talk about choir tour!!!!!! We had an LDC Family Home Evening the night before we left to kick off tour that ended up lasting til about 1:30, then we met at the institute at 7:00 the next morning and started our tour! Our tour consisted of Grand Junction, Colorado, Green River Utah, Price Utah, and Payson Utah..... you're probably thinking "wow, lamest tour I've ever heard of!" right? WRONG! One of the many many lessons I learned while on tour was that the Savior didn't seek out to teach the most noble, prettiest, popular or well known people... he taught the meek, the poor, the humble, the lowly of heart, and the people who would actually appreciate His message. We feel the same way! These people needed to see our show and feel the Saviors love for them through beautiful music. The people we sang for were so open and receptive to the spirit and that's why I feel like tour was such a success, because we were actually able to bear our testimonies to so many people.
SO this is the basic outline of how tour went. Wake up at 5:00 am for morning sides at the seminary. Do a morning side at 6:00 am. After, we would go to the seminaries and do mini EFY's with them all day! We would split up in groups and do group cheers with the kids and then play a game and then "de-brief," the game and ask the kids questions on how it partains to the Gospel. We'd then meet up together after and Brother Eggett would do a devotional and we would sing for them. INCREDIBLE. Bro. Eggett wants us working 24/7, so we didn't waste anytime and in the hour we had to spare before our show, we would go find either a rest home, jr. high, or we would even just go door to door and sing for people! Even more incredible. After that, we would head to the stake center and immediately start setting up our immaculate stage! (We built the whole thing from scratch by hand fyi.... and we had 2 trailers that came with us that held the stage so we set it up and took it down every single night!) After that, we would SHOVEL dinner into our mouths and then we had about 15 minutes to get ourselves ready for our show, and then we would perform our show and then take down the stage! After that, we would go home with our host families! This was so cool to me.... we would stay with 2-4 people each night with completely random families that voulenteered to open up their homes to us for the night! That's one reason why I love this church! We would get home at about 10:30 ish every night, shower, get ready for bed and get up at 5:00 am the next day:) Yes, it was beyond exhausting. But beyone worth it!
I've been singing since I was 5 years old and I've had a lot of great experiences because I sing. However, performing our show and singing on tour was hands down the greatest experience I have ever had because I sing. Especially singing for the seminaries! We would have a kid walk in who you could tell was "too cool," to care about the Gospel. By the end of the period, they were in tears. Tour was the closest I've felt to being a missionary and I loved it!
OH one of the best parts of tour was this!!! Remember how I said I knew I would make LDC? Well in the beginning of April, I had the same experience and I knew I was going to get a big calling in the choir next year. I knew I was going to be called into the presidency. The last day of tour, there was SO much talk of who was going to be called into the presidency next year! Brother Eggett had pulled me aside several times to discuss the matter with me, and I knew he was considering me for the presidency, I just didn't know what position it was for. By the time we got on the bus to go home Friday night, everyone had narrowed it down to 3 people for who was going to be next years president; Lauren, Teddy and me. On the bus ride home,Lauren and a bunch of us were sitting on the very back row and Bro. Eggett was at the very front. All the sudden he comes back and sits next to both of us, and just sits there!! He talked to us for like 2 minutes and then walked back up... we were FREAKING out haha! Not even a second after he left, I got a text from him saying "will you be secretary next year?" I squealed out loud haha! My very first feeling back in April was that I was going to be secretary next year and I could not be happier with that calling! After I got that text he called me and told me to come talk to him so I went up there and he said "how do you feel about Lauren for president and David Smith for vice?" and I said, "That's exactly who I would have chosen anyways!" After that, he announced it to everyone and we are THRILLED! Next year is going to be phenominal and we are already hard at work starting to plan and organize next year.
Moral of the story is I'm in love with LDC! Best decision I have ever made and I can't believe I'm so blessed to be part of something so much greater than me. Here are a few pics from tour and mine and Lauren's reactions to being called into the presidency for next year and pics of the 2010-2011 presidency!! I LOVE LDC!!!
